Dog friendly pubs near Sidmouth

Four pubs within fifteen minutes of the park, all of them personally recommended by the Oakdown team. Every one welcomes dogs.

We have kept this list short on purpose. These are places we know rather than everywhere that might let a dog through the door. Do ring ahead in high season — the smaller ones fill quickly.

The two at Branscombe

Branscombe is one of the longest villages in England, running down a combe to the sea past thatched cottages, the National Trust bakery and the old forge. It has two pubs. Both are dog friendly.

The Fountain Head

Up in the village. A fine place to end the coast path walk from Beer if you would rather finish at a pub than a café.

The Masons Arms

Also in the village. The other natural finishing point for the Beer to Branscombe walk.

The Volunteer Inn, Sidmouth

In Sidmouth itself, eight minutes from the park. Easy to combine with a walk along the esplanade or an afternoon on the beach at Jacob’s Ladder.

The Blue Ball Inn, Sidford

At Sidford, ten minutes from the park and the nearest of the four if you are heading inland rather than to the coast.

Walk there, eat there

The best of these is the Beer to Branscombe stretch of the South West Coast Path — 5.3 miles of chalk cliffs, hidden coves and some of the most dramatic scenery on the Jurassic Coast. Start at Beer, park by the beach then finish at Branscombe for the Masons Arms or the Fountain Head.

A tip worth knowing: leave one car at Branscombe in the National Trust car park, postcode EX12 3DP, then drive round to Beer to start. It saves walking it twice.

More routes are on our dog friendly walks page. There is a separate guide to dog friendly cafés plus one to dog friendly beaches.
