Walks near Oakdown
Oakdown sits in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, three miles from Sidmouth. The South West Coast Path passes within a fifteen minute walk of the park gate, which means you can start a proper walk without moving the car.
What you get within half an hour is unusually varied: ancient managed hedgerow, clifftop chalk, a wooded river valley plus one of the strangest landslip landscapes in England.
Walks worth doing
The field trail to the Donkey Sanctuary
Step through the park gate, cross the lane then you are on it. Ancient managed hedgerow, level ground throughout, no stiles. Fifteen minutes on foot to the Sanctuary. An easy first morning walk straight from your pitch.
Beer to Branscombe
Some of the most dramatic chalk cliff scenery on the Jurassic Coast. Fifteen minutes by car. Leave one car at the National Trust car park at Branscombe, EX12 3DP, then drive round to Beer to start.
Branscombe to Weston Mouth
West along the clifftops before dropping to a remote shingle cove with a stream running across it. Ten minutes by car. The Sea Shanty is on the beach for a coffee either end.
The Seaton to Lyme Regis Undercliffs
A National Nature Reserve unlike anywhere else in England — dense jungle-like vegetation on landslip terrain. Twenty minutes by car.
Take the Undercliffs seriously. There is no exit between Seaton plus Lyme Regis once you enter. Do not set out without water, food plus a charged phone. It is muddy year round, so proper boots are essential.
