A family run park in East Devon

Oakdown is a family run holiday park at Weston, three miles from Sidmouth on the A3052. It began in the 1970s with a single caravan on open Devonshire meadowland. Two generations of the Franks family have shaped it since.

Alastair and Andrianna Franks run the park today. Roger and Doreen Franks, the generation before, are still very much part of it. A park this size means you will see us about — which is rather the point of it.

The setting has not changed much. Oakdown sits in a quiet fold of the East Devon countryside, sheltered by more than seven thousand trees and shrubs planted here across fifty years. The Jurassic Coast is a short drive in either direction. Sidmouth is about ten minutes away.

What you will find here

Everything sits within a few minutes walk of everything else. Park facilities covers each of these in more detail.

How we measure up

Oakdown holds the AA Five Star Platinum Pennant for 2026/27, awarded on a 97% inspection score. We have held a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award every year since 1996. The first was given for the habitat work here, including the pond with its bird hide and the Victorian reed bed, which filters the park’s greywater through pea gravel and wetland plants without chemicals.

The park normally opens in the second week of March and closes in late November. The exact dates shift from year to year, so please contact reception during normal working hours for the season you are planning.
