Sidmouth sits between red sandstone cliffs on the Jurassic Coast, about ten minutes down the road. It has an unspoilt Regency promenade with palm trees along it, independent shops through the town centre and a long pebble beach at the bottom. It is an easy afternoon out from the park. The walk in along the coast path is worth the effort if the weather is with you.

Always coming back
Mr and Mrs Husbands have been coming to Oakdown regularly over the years. They drive down from the Midlands and use the park as their base — storing their touring caravan on site and exploring Sidmouth, East Devon and the West Dorset border at Lyme Regis and Charmouth before always returning to Oakdown to relax. On 23rd June 2004, Professor David Bellamy OBE arrived at Oakdown to officially open Oak Mead Golf Course. Representatives from HARPA arrived by helicopter, landing right on the course. It was, in David’s own spirit, a blooming marvellous day.
The Franks family had been working with David’s Conservation Award scheme since 1996 — eight years before the opening. They have held the Gold Award every year since. Thirty consecutive years.
