From sandy stretches in the far west to the pebbles of Branscombe, the beaches of East Devon’s Jurassic Coast are extremely varied. With hidden coves and rockpools to explore the area’s beaches are guaranteed to keep you and your family entertained for hours!
The East Devon coastline was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site several years ago, recognising the importance of the region’s coast. It was considered to be the only place in the world to display unbroken evidence of 185 million years of evolution.

And for those seeking beach holidays in Devon, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourites, all of which are only a stone’s (or should that be pebble?) throw away from our holiday park.
- Jacob’s Ladder Beach, Sidmouth: This sheltered bay is around one mile long and can be accessed from the town via a stretch of beach and cliffside walkways. It has a mixture of sand and pebbles, with large expanses of sand and rock pools when the tide recedes. Voluntary inshore rescue service operates weekends/Bank Holidays. Parking at Manor Road car park two minutes from clifftop gardens. Eating facilities on the side of the cliff and clifftop gardens. Dogs are banned from the beach opposite the promenade area from May 1 to Sept 30.
- Beer beach: This sheltered cove is backed by limestone cliffs. It is a sloping pebbly beach and parking is available in the village behind the Dolphin pub or at Beer Head, at the top of Common Lane. Dogs are banned on the western part of the beach from May 1 to September 30.
- Seaton Beach: Approximately one mile long, this spacious beach is pebbly and sloping. Parking is available alongside the Esplanade or in the town car parks. Along the Esplanade, there are ice cream huts and at the Chine end, there is a lovely ‘Hideaway Cafe’ which serves hot and cold food. Dogs are banned between Castle Hill and River Axe, from May 1 to Sept 30
- Branscombe Beach: Owned by the National Trust, this beach is about two miles long and is a gently sloping pebble beach. It is uncommercialised and uncrowded and is popular with families. There is car parking adjacent to the beach or at the village hall (for a donation) and take the gravel footpath through the fields. Dogs are banned on the beach in front of the cafe from May 1 to September 30.
- Budleigh Salterton Beach: A two-mile-long bay, large pebbled flat beach flanked by red sandstone cliffs. Parking at Lime Kiln car park at the eastern end of the promenade and in the nearby town. Dogs are banned between the Outfall opposite South Parade and Lime Kiln car park from May 1 to September 30
- Lyme Regis Beach: The main area of the beach is sand, although if you are after pebbles, there are 2 sections to choose from. Lyme Regis is often busy due to its popular Cobb and bustling town centre. Parking is available at The Cobb and also Holmbush car parks, but there are various other privately owned car parks dotted around.
