Towns and villages
This corner of the coast has kept its towns distinct from one another. A Regency resort, a fishing village hauled up a shingle beach, a thatched village strung along its own valley, then a market town with a tramway running down to the sea.
Most are reachable on the Route 899, which stops at our entrance gates.
Where to go
Sidmouth — three miles
Regency terraces along the esplanade, gardens above the beach, a proper high street. Twenty minutes on the bus.
Beer — seven miles
Fishing boats hauled up a shingle cove beneath white chalk cliffs, with the Quarry Caves above the village.
Branscombe — ten minutes
A thatched village strung along its valley to the sea, with the Sea Shanty on the beach plus the Fountain Head inland.
Seaton — seven miles
Victorian seaside charm plus the tramway running down the Axe Valley. Colyford, Southleigh, Northleigh and Farway sit inland.
Colyton
A historic market town reached along the River Coly from Colyford — flat, open walking, with the tramway to bring you back.
Lyme Regis — twelve miles
Georgian architecture, the Cobb, a working harbour plus the fossils that made it famous.
