For more than fifty years this family run park has been shaped step by step into a place where guests of all needs can relax, explore and feel at home.
We are a family run park and over two generations we have learned that a warm welcome means different things to different guests. For some it is a level path and a parking space by the door. For others it is a quiet word at reception, a hearing loop, or simply knowing there is always someone here to help.
None of this happened all at once. It has been added thoughtfully, year after year — and we are proud to share it with you.

A flat park that is easy to move through
Oakdown is flat throughout — roads, grass and pitches alike — with no ramps or steps anywhere within the main park. The roads double as paths and are clearly visible, which helps partially sighted guests and wheelchair users alike. Where speed bumps sit on the roads, a level gap at the end of each one lets wheelchairs and mobility aids pass through freely.
- Free mobility scooter. A mobility scooter is available on the park free of charge. Pre-booking is advised — just ask at reception.
- Level paths and seating. Benches are placed at intervals around the park and along the field trail, so there is always somewhere to pause and rest.
A reception that puts you at ease
A reserved disabled parking space sits directly outside reception, with flat, step free access to the door. The entrance has automatic doors that open at the push of a large, clearly marked button. Inside there is a dropped counter at the far end of the desk.
- Hearing loop in reception. An induction loop is fitted in reception. Ask a member of staff to switch it on whenever you need it.
- Automatic doors and step free entry. The 850mm wide automatic doors and gently raised threshold give comfortable wheelchair access.
Pitches close to the facilities
Five pitches sit especially close to the amenities building, so the washrooms are never far away. Copper Beech pitches 1 and 2 are the closest, around 10 metres from the building — about twenty steps. Beech Grove has three more, opposite or immediately beside the amenities, again around 10 metres away.
For guests who would prefer a lodge, Oak Grove 42 offers a level approach via an access ramp, a ground floor entrance, lever taps and a dedicated wide parking space with a level paved path to the door. It is a standard lodge with easier access rather than a fully adapted one — door widths and fittings are standard throughout — so we are always happy to talk it through before you book.
Accessible bathing in both amenity blocks
Both amenity blocks have automatic doors and virtually level entrances. Within each is a large family bathroom holding most accessible facilities — available to all who need it, not reserved exclusively. Fittings include an anti slip bath mat, an air operated emergency alarm and a bath seat, alongside a low level dishwashing sink with lever taps and a perching stool for those who prefer to sit.
Assistance animals welcome throughout
Oakdown is extremely dog friendly and assistance animals are welcome everywhere on the park. The field trail alongside Beech Grove leads to the local Donkey Sanctuary on level grass, with benches along the way for resting. A slight ramp connects the road to the walkway, where wheelchair users may appreciate a little assistance on the return.
People who are trained and who genuinely care
Our staff have completed the Welcome All accessibility awareness course and received additional training from the park. The team is here daily from 8.30am to 9.00pm. A push bell outside reception summons the duty member of staff for anything outside those hours. Tell us on arrival if anyone in your party has a disability or medical condition and we will note any arrangements and keep emergency details on file, in confidence.
It is the small things, too — our team will happily pick and deliver an initial shop for a less mobile guest, or bring any mail to you during your stay. Just ask.
Autistic and neurodivergent guests
We recognise that some autistic and neurodivergent guests may experience holidays differently and may have specific sensory, communication or routine based needs. We encourage guests to contact us before their stay to discuss any requirements and we will always do our best to make their holiday as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
- Quieter areas of the park. We can discuss pitch or accommodation locations that suit your needs, including spots that are quieter or closer to facilities.
- Information before you arrive. We are happy to share details of the layout, facilities and daily routines in advance so there are no surprises on arrival.
- Consistent routines. Facilities and opening times follow a predictable daily pattern. Clear signage throughout helps guests find their way around with confidence.
- Quieter times of year. If a less busy environment would suit you, we can advise on periods when the park is at its quietest. Just ask when you call.
