East Devon has no shortage of cafés — but finding ones that genuinely welcome dogs rather than just tolerating them takes local knowledge. These are personal recommendations from Andrianna Franks and the Oakdown team. Every one has been tried and tested.
And of course, your dog’s holiday starts on site — the Oak Mead Café has a dedicated doggy menu and dogs are welcome throughout.

Oak Mead Café — On Site at Oakdown
The Oak Mead Café at our on-site golf course is the natural starting point. Dogs are welcome throughout and we have a dedicated doggy menu — one of very few holiday park cafés in the South West to offer one. Dog-friendly ice cream is available throughout the season.
It makes a difference to be able to sit down properly with a coffee while your dog has something to enjoy alongside you rather than watching from the floor.

The Sea Shanty Café, Branscombe — 10 minutes
The Sea Shanty sits right on Branscombe beach — one of the few cafés in Devon where you can eat with the sea in front of you and your dog beside you on the shingle. It is dog friendly at its outdoor seating and is a natural stop after a walk along the Jurassic Coast.
Branscombe beach is our closest year-round dog-friendly beach — 10 minutes from the park. Combining a beach visit with a stop at the Sea Shanty is one of the best mornings out in East Devon.
Good to know: during the summer seasonal restriction period (1 May to 30 September), dogs on leads are permitted access to the Sea Shanty even within the small café restriction zone on Branscombe beach.

Sea-facing and dog friendly. One of the most popular spots on the Sidmouth seafront — great for a coffee after a walk along the promenade with your dog.
The Mocha
Sea-facing and dog friendly. A relaxed spot on the Sidmouth seafront — good coffee and a welcome for dogs.
The Marine
Sea-facing and dog friendly. Another reliable seafront option — the views across Lyme Bay are hard to beat on a clear day.
Milsons Point
A personal recommendation from Andrianna. Dog friendly and a lovely spot — worth seeking out.
The Courtyard
A personal recommendation from the team. A hidden garden terrace at the rear — one of those spots that rewards guests who know to look for it.
The Byes
The riverside park in Sidmouth is flat, peaceful and ideal for walking dogs before or after a café stop on the seafront. A popular route for guests from the park.
