Barrel pod glamping at The Shire, Oakdown Holiday Park near Sidmouth Devon

One of our three barrel pods — Thistle, Heather or Bluebell — in The Shire at Oakdown.

Our three barrel pods — Thistle, Heather and Bluebell — are a gentle introduction to glamping. Proper beds, heating, a kettle and a picnic table outside. Dogs are welcome. The Donkey Sanctuary trail is a fifteen-minute walk from the park gate and Clean Paws is a short walk from all glamping pitches.

Bedding packs are available to purchase if you would prefer not to bring your own.

Thistle, Heather and Bluebell

The Barrel Pods

Three identical barrel pods, each sleeping up to two adults and two children. They are the same shape and size — the names are the only difference. All three are non-smoking and pet friendly.

Sleeping is split between an elevated 6ft sleeping area at the rear — a double formed from two 3ft mattresses, accessed by steps — and two bench seats that convert into single beds for children. The backrest cushions extend the sleeping space; these are foam cushioned and best suited to younger guests rather than adults.

There is a hideaway table inside, ample storage beneath the bench seats and the elevated sleeping area. A front porch with two wooden seats sits outside. A picnic table on the grass is for your exclusive use and parking is right next to the pod.

Minimum stay: two nights. Each pod has its own dedicated parking space directly alongside.
