The Shire – For camping with added creature comforts…
The Shire is Oakdown’s dedicated glamping area, where you can leave the tent pegs at home, and say hello to camping with a few home comforts included! We have three different glamping experiences: our Devon Barrel Pod, which is new this season, our Premier Pod which has just a bit more space, and then the unique experience of sleeping in one of our exquisitely styled Shepherd’s Huts.
The Shire is nestled in our glamping grove area, of our 5 Star holiday park, with outside seating, surrounded by grass and nature, it really is a lovely tranquil place to relax.
Glamping at Oakdown offers more than just a pre-erected roof over your head, with beds, mattresses, electricity and heating as well as much more.
As a dog-friendly park, dogs are welcome in both the Barrel Pod and the Premier Pod. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs in the Shepherd’s Huts.
All of our glamping options sleep up to 4 people. Please have a look at each of the options for more detailed information together with pictures of the accommodation.
In addition to staying in the glamping accommodation of your choice, there is a small toilet block complete with a dishwashing area close by. Not too far away is the main amenities block where you can shower, take a bath, and use the toilet and the laundry facilities.

We believe our glamping accommodation is among the best of any holiday park in the UK, and we take great pride in providing our guests with a great holiday experience. All our glamping pods are close to their own on-site facilities, with water and waste points nearby also.
Like all our self-catering and touring pitches, our glamping accommodation is a great base from which to explore the local area. You are just a short distance from the beautiful Devon coast and countryside – and the popular town of Sidmouth is right on your doorstep, ideal for grabbing a bite to eat or stocking up on those daily essentials. On-park you’ll find a range of great facilities plus there’s also the Oak Lodge Cafe and the Oak Mead Golf Course for you to enjoy.
