East Devon reads differently depending on when you come. Spring is quiet walking country, summer is festivals plus warm sea, autumn is bronze hedgerows with the crowds gone. Each has an argument for itself.

The four seasons
Spring — March to May
The coast path at its best, before the schools break up. Farmers markets, Easter trails, then the first festivals in May.
Summer — June to August
Festival after festival, warm sea plus long evenings. The busiest stretch of the year by some way.
Autumn — September to November
Quieter, still warm into September, then fireworks plus tar barrels to finish.
