Family attractions in Devon
There is a wide range of family attractions close to the park, from museums and heritage railways to wetlands and adventure parks. Most are within half an hour of the gates.

Outdoors and gardens
Seaton Wetlands
Marshland and reedbeds alongside the River Axe, with five bird hides and nearly four kilometres of level trails and boardwalks suitable for wheelchairs, bikes and pushchairs. It is made up of four sites — Seaton Marshes, Black Hole Marsh, Colyford Common plus Stafford Marsh — and it teems with wildlife.
Escot
Set in 220 acres of private parkland in the heart of East Devon. Refreshingly uncommercial for an award winning attraction. It is the sort of place families return to year after year.
Bicton Park
Botanical gardens with plenty of quiet corners, things for children to do plus a licensed restaurant with an outside terrace.
Trams, trains and caves
Seaton Tramway
Narrow gauge heritage trams running between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton through the Axe Valley. The line follows the estuary through two nature reserves, which gives you a view of the birdlife you would not get on foot.
Pecorama
On the hillside above the fishing village of Beer. It is home to PECO — the world’s foremost manufacturer of model railway track. Gardens, a miniature railway plus one of Devon’s leading attractions in its own right.
Beer Quarry Caves
A journey underground through the vast man-made caves at Beer, part of England’s only natural World Heritage Site.
Country Life Museum
At Exmouth, with pony trekking at Farway nearby. Easily combined with a stroll around Beer, which also offers sea fishing trips.
Adventure parks
The Bear Trail
A muddy adventure trail for the whole family. Expect to come home needing a shower.
Crealy Adventure Park
Between Sidmouth and Exeter. Farm animals, fishing lakes, adventure areas including a free fall drop slide, pony rides and a good deal more besides.
The Donkey Sanctuary
You can walk to it directly from Oakdown. It is open all day and entry is free. Inside are hundreds of rescued donkeys living out their days in the Devon countryside.
It is the closest thing we have to an attraction on the doorstep. It is also one of the reasons guests choose this part of East Devon.
