Booking and arrival
How do I book?
Direct with us, either through our own booking pages or by ringing reception. We are not on Booking.com or Pitchup.
When is the park open?
We normally open in the second week of March then close in late November. The dates shift a little year to year, so ring reception during normal working hours for a specific date.
What time can I arrive?
Arrival is from 3.30pm. That is the same for touring and camping pitches, the lodges plus the glamping units.
If you are going to reach us later than 6.30pm, please let reception know. And if your vehicle is over 2m, remember the height barriers close at 10.30pm.
What time do I have to leave on departure day?
The pitch or unit is yours until 10.30am. Once you are checked in you can come plus go as you please during your stay.
If you would like longer on the day you leave, a late checkout until 5.00pm costs £15, subject to availability. Ask reception when you book or on the morning itself.
Is there a barrier at night?
Yes. Height restricting barriers at the entrances stop vehicles over 2m, or 6’6”, from entering or leaving between 10.30pm plus 8.30am. If you are in a motorhome or a high van, plan your arrival around that.
Is a deposit needed for keys?
A key deposit is taken at check in.
Pitches and outfits
How many pitches are there?
Ninety-seven touring pitches, in non serviced, serviced plus super serviced.
Can I pitch a tent on hard standing?
No. Tents go on grass only, either non serviced or serviced. The gravel on hard standing plus super serviced pitches is large enough to tear a groundsheet. One tent per pitch.
How long a caravan can you take?
Up to the UK legal limit — 7 metres, or 8 metres including the A frame. No grove is set aside for larger outfits, though a couple of pitches suit them. Ring reception.
Is there a limit on motorhome length?
No real limit. A ten metre American school bus has been in plus out of the entrance then sat on a pitch.
Can I put an awning up?
Yes, on grass as well as hard standing. The pitch choice here is about services rather than awnings.
What about a gazebo?
Allowed, as long as it fits within your pitch. There is a charge per night — just ask when you book.
Where is the motorhome service point?
Outside the main amenity block on the reception side. It is drive in then reverse out rather than a drive through, which is worth knowing if you are towing.
Dogs
Are dogs welcome?
Yes. Five of our sixteen lodges take dogs — Hazel Grove 1 to 5 — along with both pod types plus every touring or camping pitch. Cherry Grove is kept pet free.
What does it cost?
Charges vary, so rather than print a figure that goes stale we apply the current one through the booking pages.
Is there anywhere to wash a muddy dog?
Clean Paws, our own dog spa. A ramp up into a secure area with a bath, a hot water shower plus a dryer. Free to use, open all day.
Glamping
Is bedding provided?
Not in the barrel pods or premier pods — bedding packs can be added when you book. Bedding is included in the shepherd’s huts.
Are there steps?
Barrel pods have one small step. Premier pods have level access with no step. Shepherd’s huts have steps to the door.
Is there a minimum stay?
Two nights, though it is longer on some high season dates plus events. Please check with reception.
On the park
Is there WiFi?
A network of access points fed by a fibre optic line we had laid specially. Vouchers from reception. It is a rural valley, so do check coverage before you buy.
Can I charge an electric car?
Four Pod Point charge points on the park.
Do you sell gas?
Calor 6kg propane plus 7kg butane, ordered at reception. Ask if you would like a hand getting it to the pitch.
Is there a shop?
The Oak Mead café plus shop are over the road on Gatedown Lane. Breakfast baps, barista coffee, bread plus pastries delivered daily.
Can I get about without the car?
The Route 899 stops at our entrance gates, linking Sidmouth with Seaton by way of the park. It is free with a bus pass.
