Why choose Oakdown when you buy a holiday home?

Oakdown has long been known as a retreat for discerning country lovers set amidst the spectacular coast and countryside of East Devon’s Heritage Coast and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Jurassic Coast – England’s 1st Natural World Heritage Site.

The beautiful Weston Valley and much of the coastal path are National Trust property. The area abounds with a wealth of wildlife, quiet beaches, history and geology which the discriminating visitor can explore from this ideal holiday base.

Unspoilt ancient villages nestle in secluded valleys, where olde world inns like the Blue Ball at Sidford serve mouth-watering meals and cosy thatched tea rooms will delight you with delicious cream teas. Branscombe, England’s longest village, boasts a working thatched forge, also one of Devon’s finest Norman churches. The picturesque Masons Arms with its superb restaurant is a fantastic place to eat at any time of day.
Branscombe beach has a large car park and the Sea Shanty cafe where snacks and ice creams are also served throughout the day.

Enjoy the Country Life Museum at Exmouth and pony trekking at Farway; stroll through Beer, an unspoilt fishing village which offers sea fishing trips. Vast man-made quarry caves and a light
railway and leisure garden complex at Peco , Bicton Park provides a fantastic day out for all the family – there’s peace and tranquillity in the beautiful gardens, attractions for the children and a spacious licensed restaurant to complete the day out.

The secret of Oakdown lies in the fact that the ordinary pursuits of holidaymaking can be enjoyed in an area which is not and never is likely to be spoilt. We invite you to join our ever-growing number of regular guests who return year after year.

Oakdown has been sensitively developed and offers many opportunities to appreciate local wildlife from a setting where the environment is a natural extension to the holiday experience.

Imagine lying in the warm sunshine, buzzards wheeling overhead, butterflies basking on the wild flowers and song birds serenading you – that’s Oakdown.

For over forty years Oakdown has been carefully fashioned by the Franks family, from open Devonshire meadowland to its current multi award winning standard. No straight lines here, just gentle curves, spacious groves, seclusion, privacy and peace and quiet. Thousands of trees and shrubs have been carefully planted and tended – marvellous for our wildlife all year round. Each year sees many birds, including Goldfinches, Pheasants, Partridges and Skylarks nesting on the Park and our winter resident and visiting wildlife now enjoy fruit from over twenty varieties of our trees and shrubs.

Our grass is kept beautifully mown, our floral displays are, we are told, a delight to behold and our climate is wonderfully mild.

Unique! Oakdown’s own field trail, lined with avenues of trees and Devon banks, leads across meadows to the world-famous Donkey Sanctuary. The trail is a wild flower and bird lover’s dream – a wonderful level stroll for all the family and dogs too! Do’nt forget to visit our Bird –Hide for a rewarding, natural vista of Oakdown’s wildlife!
