Smart reception building with a friendly welcome; escorted to our pitch by a warden, which was a nice touch; lovely good-sized, hedge-lined pitch; the amenities were a short walk and are clearly very new, and, as everyone else says, are ‘spotless’… although, they’re not the largest (3 showers in the mens’) so could get busy at peak times; there’s also a bathroom, laundry room and kitchen with a help-yourself microwave and freezer (both very useful and typical of the attention to detail throughout the site); the 9-hole golf course (which is what first attracted us to Oakdown) is good fun and although the holes are quite ‘samey’, they’re still challenging – especially for amateurs like us!; there’s a friendly shop with all the basics and a nice café with plenty of specials (my partner’s daughter described the home-made Nutella ice-cream as the best ever!); there’s also a TV and games room with pool table and table football that helped kill an hour or two in the evening; Sidmouth is a few minutes’ drive; the Donkey Sanctuary (free admission) is a few minute’s walk along a private path from the site; whilst a bus to Sidmouth stops right outside the park and costs just a quid; there are pods and static caravans onsite too, so very much something for everyone, whatever your budget (the camping prices, given the facilities and the location, were very reasonable).
