5 tips to contribute to an eco-friendly holiday in Devon

In recent years we have seen an increased emphasis placed on how we care for the environment.  In 2020 we saw travel bans placed across numerous counties across the world, which revealed to us the real impact that our travel can have on the planet. With carbon emissions falling sharply during lockdown we saw clear waters in Venice, blue skies over Delhi and animals happily roaming the streets of usually busy cities.

We are counting down the days to life returning back to normal, but we would love to make a conscious effort to contribute to an eco-friendly holiday in Devon.  We are extremely lucky to be located in a beautiful area of outstanding natural beauty, making it even more important to protect and learn about our environment.

There are a number of steps you can take to help look after our environment when enjoying a family holiday in Devon.  Check out our helpful guide to making your holiday in Devon more eco-friendly…

1. Ditch the single use plastics

We are sure that many of you will know about the problems of single use plastics. Try packing your reusable water bottle, tupperware and reusable bags!  Choosing to use reusable items allows us to leave our environment as beautiful as we found it!

2. Cut down on travel

By choosing a staycation in the UK you are already decreasing your environmental impact by cutting down on air travel.  When you choose a holiday at Oakdown you won’t have to travel far to visit all of the local attractions and top destinations.  There are a number of bus routes connecting major towns and villages throughout Devon.  There is even a narrow-gauge tramway that runs for three miles between Seaton and Colyton, a fun way to get around for a bit of sightseeing.

3. Embrace the outdoors

At Oakdown Holiday Park you are spoilt for choice for green space!  With the Jurassic coast on your doorstep, the rolling hills of Dartmoor and the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty nearby, this region is perfect for getting stuck into nature and exploring what is on offer.

Another top choice for a green day out is to hit the golf course. The Oakmead Family Golf and Recreation Area is located immediately opposite our holiday park.  Open to both residents and non-residents, a day on the golf course is ideal for the whole family.
